Who can stay at the Brown Building?
The Brown Building is open to college students as long as they are enrolled in higher education such as UCONN. Students are welcome from UCONN, Post University, and Naugatuck Community College. We are not open to the general public.
Is financial aid available?
Most colleges do offer financial aid for off-campus housing. Check with your financial aid office to see if you qualify. If you do qualify, you’ll be able to note this when you complete the Brown Building Application.
Can I hold a room for a friend?
We do not hold rooms. All applications are first come first serve but you are able to specify preferred roommates in the application form. We recommend that you contact us directly if there is a specific group of 4 you’d like us to accommodate. Please keep in mind that all members of your suite would have to register at the same time to qualify.
How are suites and floors arranged per gender?
Both floors are mixed, with men and women in various suites. The suites themselves are single-sex only.
Can non-resident friends stay the night?
Friends who are not residents of the Brown Building may stay over a single night at a time. You are responsible for the conduct of your friends and will be held liable if any damage is caused by them.
Is parking available?
Parking is available for our residents at an additional cost of $280 per semester. Students can register when applying for residency. Should a student decide to add parking at a later date, they can do that through the Residential Parking form. We do not offer parking for visitors, however paid public parking is available close by.
Are pets allowed?
No, pets are not allowed, of any kind.
Is smoking permitted?
All rooms are smoke-free and smoking of any kind is not permitted. Neither is the use of candles or incense, or drugs and narcotics. Cigarette smoking is permitted in outdoor areas only.
Is a gym or fitness room available?
We do not have fitness facilities on premises, but the YMCA does offer a discount to all our residents. The Y is a 4-minute walk across Waterbury Green.
When are move-in and move-out days?
Move-in and move-out days vary and are dependent on the beginning and start of each school year. Once your registration is approved, you will be notified by email of the exact dates.
Can I change my room after move-in day?
If you are unhappy with your living arrangement, you can change to a room of equal value provided you’re able to find someone willing to switch with you. Room changes much be brought to the attention of the Management Office and approved before the change can take place.
Are rooms available during the summer?
Yes, rooms are available during the summer months. Summer rates will be posted prior to year’s end.
Can we leave our items in our rooms over summer?
All items must be cleared out on move-out day. No items can remain in your suite, even if you are scheduled to have the same space the following year. Your room must also be cleaned, and any damage to the room or property furniture will be accounted for and deducted from your deposit.
